Selected faster manufacturing routes can substantially reduce the wait, although they will usually offer a more restricted choice of materials, colours or design specifications.

For customers working towards a tight deadline, selected products and manufacturing routes can potentially bring the timescale down to around 2–3 weeks. It isn’t available for every shutter or specification.
Best For: When speed is the priority.
STANDARD PLUS → STANDARD → DELUXE → EXPRESS → DIAMOND ARE LEAD-TIME ROUTES — NOT QUALITY GRADES.
A Diamond shutter isn’t automatically a better shutter than a Standard shutter. It simply represents a faster available manufacturing route where your required specification allows it.
Why Do Made-to-Measure Shutters Have Different Lead Times?
Because not every shutter follows the same journey from survey to your windows
MATERIAL
Wooden shutters can require longer production because finishing and spraying processes require drying time between stages.
FACTORY LOCATION
Where your shutters are manufactured matters. UK production can offer considerably shorter routes, while overseas manufacture introduces a longer journey from factory to installation.
SPECIFICATION
One way manufacturers achieve faster turnaround is by reducing the number of available choices — fewer materials, colours and design options.
DESIGN COMPLEXITY
A straightforward rectangular shutter is very different from a handmade shaped panel requiring templates and CAD approval.
FACTORY CAPACITY
Published lead times aren’t permanent. Production demand, seasonal peaks and factory workload can all affect current estimates.
FREIGHT
SEA FREIGHT — standard economical route. TRAIN FREIGHT — potentially faster, with an uplift. AIR FREIGHT — expedited where available, at additional cost.
Shaped Shutters? Allow a Little More Time.
Some shutters simply shouldn’t be rushed.
A shaped shutter may first need to be accurately templated. Then there can be CAD drawings to check and approve before manufacture can begin.
Unlike a straightforward rectangular panel, shaped shutters require considerably more individual, hands-on manufacture.

Rather than promising an artificial fixed timescale, I’ll establish what’s involved and give you a realistic estimate for your particular design.

There’s One Manufacturer I’ve Never Received an Imperfect Shutter From
To this day, I’ve never received a product imperfection from one particular manufacturer I currently use. I’m deliberately not naming them here. I’ll happily explain who they are — and why I rate them — at your design survey.
Because that doesn’t automatically mean they’re the right manufacturer for every customer. Your windows, design, material, budget and timescale still matter. Over 25 years, I’ve experienced substantial differences between shutter manufacturers. Not just in how quickly they manufacture, but in product quality, consistency, reliability and how well they communicate once an order enters production.
Some manufacturers are considerably better than others at keeping me informed about where an order actually is and whether it’s progressing to schedule.
I’ve Experienced the Other Extreme Too.
I once supplied shutters for a whole-house project covering 13 windows. Because of imperfections in the products supplied, the shutters ultimately had to be manufactured and fitted three times. I stopped using that manufacturer.
A 2-WEEK LEAD TIME ISN’T MUCH OF AN ADVANTAGE IF I WOULDN’T BE HAPPY FITTING THE PRODUCT IN YOUR HOME.

How Quickly Do You Actually Need Your Shutters?

Start by looking at Standard or Deluxe and keep more of your material and design choices open.
RENOVATING OR MOVING HOME?
Tell me your target date and we’ll work backwards. Remember that the lead time needs to account for the point at which your final measurements and specification can actually be confirmed.
NEED THEM QUICKLY?
I’ll look at the current Express and Diamond options suitable for your windows. You may need to compromise on some choices to achieve the faster turnaround.
SPECIALIST SHAPE OR DESIGN?
Start as early as possible. Templating, CAD approval and specialist manufacture can all add time before the finished shutters are ready.
DON’T CHOOSE THE SHUTTER AND THEN TELL ME THE DEADLINE. TELL ME THE DEADLINE AND LET’S CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHUTTER.

How Long Do Plantation Shutters Take?
My current routes can range from approximately 2–3 weeks for selected fast-turnaround options through to 10–12 weeks for broader standard ranges. Specialist shaped or more complex shutters can take 12+ weeks. These are estimated lead times and depend on your chosen product, manufacturer, specification and current factory capacity.
Can I Really Get Plantation Shutters in 2–3 Weeks?
Potentially, yes. Selected products and manufacturing routes can offer approximately 2–3 week lead times, but this isn’t available for every material, colour, style or specification.
Are Faster Shutters Lower Quality?
Not necessarily. Faster ranges often achieve shorter lead times by offering fewer product or design choices, rather than simply making the same shutter more quickly. This is why I consider quality and suitability as well as speed.
Do Wooden Shutters Take Longer?
They can. Wooden shutters can involve additional finishing processes, including drying time between spraying stages, and many wood products also follow longer overseas manufacturing routes. The actual manufacturer and product matter too.
Do Shaped Shutters Take Longer?
Generally, yes. They can require templating, CAD drawing approval and individual manufacture, so I treat specialist shapes separately under Standard Plus.
When Does My Shutter Lead Time Start?
A quoted manufacturing lead time isn’t necessarily the same thing as the number of weeks from your first enquiry until installation. Final measurements, specification, order confirmation and — where required — drawing approval need to happen before manufacture can properly progress.
How Long Does Fitting Take Once My Shutters Arrive?
That depends on the number, size and complexity of your shutters. I’ll establish the installation requirement for your particular project rather than adding a generic fitting period to the manufacturing estimate. Having said that 98% of all installations I complete within one day.
